Song Song presents: Luncheon, Track List Paintings by Nicolas Jasmin.
Song Song, the gallery of Song, is pleased to present a series of new paintings by Nicolas Jasmin, as part of its ongoing Luncheon program. Originally based on notebooks the artist kept while performing as a DJ, the "track list paintings" dryly pair information about two iconic songs against a mechanically-executed black ground. Devoid of the human touch, the paintings seem to indicate that there is meaning is to be found in the vacuous interstice, the silent place where two sounds can be brought to meet.
The Luncheon program at Song Song is offered in supplement to the main schedule of exhibitions at Song Song, of which there are approximately four per year. It was initiated for the same reasons a chef would decide to open a bistro in conjunction with her main restaurant: the fare in Luncheon is typically lighter or more experimental, and conceived and executed with more spontaneity than the gallery's main bill of events.
